Hi, my name is Emily and I like to buy things even though I shouldn't. I just ordered Amigurumi!: Super Happy Crochet Cute by Elisabeth Doherty of Gourmet Amigurumi.
This post on Plush You! talks about the book and also feature photos of her absolutely amazing work. Check out the detail on the mermaid to the left. Doesn't it make you want to learn how to crochet if you don't know how to already? I can't wait to learn how to make amigurumi without making the legs and torso as separate pieces. And these feet! The toes! I can't gush enough.
The article points you to her Flickr page as well but in case you don't click over to the article I'll link it here, too. Seriously, she's amazing. I love the red-headed creature below as well. Her name is Willow and doesn't she kind remind you of another red-head? One who fights vampires?
We had dinner last night with a friend of Jake's from his Geeky Forum. She has two kids that I could have just eaten up with a spoon. I couldn't believe how smart they were! The oldest is five and read us The Berenstain Bears and the Bad Habit in its entirety and only tripped over a couple of words. I mean, who's going to get "outrageous" on the first try anyway? He could also rattle off state capitals on demand. While he was reading, the three year old put together puzzles of the different continents that I would have had trouble with. At one point he pointed to Sweden and said, "That's my favorite one." Sigh, I don't think there's anything better than kids.
Kids and amigurumi - how cute!
My aunt used to make these toys for me when I was a kid. I had a whole collection of nursery rhyme ones - Jack & Jill (with a bucket!), Humpty Dumpty, Peter Peter... they were sooo cool. I took them for granted when I was a youngen', but am growing to appreciate them. Too cool.
